I once saw a small chainwheel, slightly bigger than an RD pulley wheel, in a vertical track, so it could be adjusted up/down to interfere with the chain. This made sense to me, maybe because I understood it, but I have since then seen modern tandems and they don't have it. Low-end tandems still use this. http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/hotels/japan/kyoto/area-activities/activities/guest-activities/kyoto-tandem-bike-ride |

However if you don't have the other bits or if you can't trim the crank casting it's not especially cheap and a complete crank set w/BB may well be better value. I think he's asking if there's any reason it won't work on a non-tandem, not whether or not he can convert it to a single chain-ring crank. Yes. I mean can I just install the thing on my fuji s12-s, which is already a triple (an oldskool one with a single set of 110bcd chainring bolts and so a 34T low), and be happy. Mine is 170 and all three rings are on 110, so all I would need to get is a granny ring. So what would be the difference between the front and rear right sides? Thanks |
