It's from the latin word "palmaris" ("who deserves the palm") and was in
1868 introduced in the French language (I admit I had to look it up)

It has 2 definitions:

1) Those callouses a male cyclist gets on his palms from resting his weight
on the handlebars for many hours/day.
2) those callouses a male gets on his palms from excessive masturbation



Since I don't ride very many hours anymore, most of my "palmares" come from
#2.
