Default Help - jockey wheels

Talking about jockey wheels, I remember a post recommending some, either on
here or on C+. I'm on the lookout for some new ones, one of mine has some
significant play and I'd like to put in better ones, any recommendations?

Bear in mind some designs have significant intentional play. Don't know
about the Deore specifically.

Probably best to stick with Shimano.

Shimano upper jockey wheels have intentional play or "float".

Tacx ones with roller bearings work well for me.

They worked well for me too except were noisy compared to Campag's --
chain not meshing with jockey wheel teeth as neatly, I think.

This in XT long cage, yes? Can you fit Campag jockey wheels in
Shimano mechs? I'm curious.

I tend to stick to XT ones. The upper one has a ceramic bearing and is
deigned to float, as others have already pointed out, and lowers now come
with a sealed bearing.

Years ago I used Tacx succesfully but more recently bought some that didn't
last. I'd have put this down to an anomaly but a friend fitted some BBB
ones which looked identical and they also failed prematurely. These two
experiences swayed me back to XTs.

No, I've not used Tacx jockey wheels with a Shimano mech myself but the
ones I got were made for various mechs, including some Shimanos. They
came with various spacers to fit various make & speed mechs. The slight
problem I had was caused by the jockey wheel/chain interface rather than
anything to do with the mech itself, I think, and the SRAM PC59 chain I
used is Shimano compatible. (Same thing also experienced with Campag
chain).

Can you fit Campag jockey wheels in
Shimano mechs? I'm curious.

Dunno if Campag jockeys fit Shimano mechs; wouldn't be surprised if they
fit some with non-oversized jockey wheels.

Yeah, I just got some more Shimano XT ones. Thanks for all the advice
everyone. I did need new ones, although there is play, there's also wear.
