Default OT China Shenzen bans e bikes

They have half a million ebikes and they are banned for the next six months.

Last year, according to Shenzhen traffic police bureau, 64 people were
killed and 233 were injured in 268 accidents caused by e-bikes. The bikes
accounted for 15.7 percent of all road accidents in the city in 2010

No registration means no license plate to track down, so riders can easily
flee after an accident, making it difficult for victims to claim damages.

I suspect that e-bikes will go though the same licensing process as
motorbikes and cars did 50 0r 60 years ago. They became a menace with
untrained riders drivers causing death and havoc, and therefore there
was a need to clean up the situation. I see locally, e-bikes on
pavements and ridden in a dreadful manner, with clueless old ladies and
gents scooting around oblivious to pedestrians and traffic at speed of
up to 15mph!

But I would suggest that this group is not really about e-bike riders,
it’s about cycling which is the sport/transportation/hobby/pastime (call
it what you like) where people propel a mechanical contraption with
their feet pressed on pedals rather than using a miniature motor to
propel them along.
