For about $10/pair, its the best and cheapest way to improve your stopping! |

I have never wanted anything stronger except in the rain when all rim brakes suffer (and rims, too). -- Jay Beattie. |

[that's real rain, where you get wet, not "rain" where there's a dark streak in the middle of your tire.] sure, they may not scrape up your rims as bad, but that's a minor consideration compared to being able to stop on demand! and those things just don't. awful. and they're not even that good at the rim scraping thing either: http://www.flickr.com/photos/38636024@N00/101935519/ |

Maybe something better. The deal is that I ride in the rain maybe six months a year down some very steep, broken concrete roads through the Portland West Hills. I have not found any rim brake pad that works that well under those conditions. The salmon KoolStops are pretty good, IMO, but are not amazing (as some suggest). That is why I use disks on my commuter. Even when my brakes are perfect, traction is an issue. Some of my routes home turn in to bobsled runs in the heavy rain. I am still looking for the best rain tire. -- Jay Beattie. |
