Maybe there's some kind of instant random A-list celebrity thing going
on and the papparazzi are after you. After all their choices in Aus are
pretty limited, it's either you or the Australian Idol people (and I'm
sure the papparazzi don't have to work too hard there).

Ahhh.. reminds me of a few months back when I was riding close to
traffic speed along Nebo Road (Bruce Hwy) Mackay in peak hour. On my
left is a line of parked cars, on my right a B-Double chemical truck is
passing me. As the B-Doubles back wheels line up with me he starts
moving into my lane. Then a Coca-Cola truck pulls out from the parking
lane in front of him. The chemical truck brakes and swerves back into
his lane.

While I'm recovinging from this near disaster, a horn blasts behind me.
There's an old lady (must have been close to 70) in an early model
Datsun with her hand on the horn and waving her arm furiously trying to
signal me to "GET OFF THE ROAD!". I couldn't believe it. Road raging
grannies. I ignored her, so she winds the Datto up and passes me in my
lane leaving only a few centimetres between us. I took a swing at her
car but it was so small my hand passed above its roof.

She got about twenty metres before being boxed in by the coke truck and
the chemical truck. You've got to wonder why she was in such a hurry?
Late for an important CWA meeting?

Sorry Hippy, you know I win the biggest arse competition! I have been
cultivating mine over winter. You've got no chance.

You win.

My tale: travelling south along Blackburn Road, just south of the
Mulgrave/South Eastern/Monash/whatever it's called today Freeway. I'd
carefully positioned my bike so that any car trying to overtake me would
pretty much _have_ to move into the next lane (as you do, especially
when there isn't anywhere near enough room in the lane for both a bike
and a car).

$TWIT decided to express his pleasure and delight at my riding skills by
slowing down (in the middle lane), tooting his horn for a good minute or
more, and shaking his fist in my general direction.

Now, call me stupid, but wouldn't that mean that he's going to end up
being significantly later for his oh-so-very-important meeting than if
he'd just travelled on his merry way?

If anybody wants to discuss my habits as a cyclist, I'm happy to do so,
in a calm, civilised manner, off the road. Next time somebody decides to
try to intimidate me, though, I'm filing a police report.

Another effort I remember: travelling east along North Road, just shy of
Princes Highway, a bus passed me, at a relative speed of around 30 kph
(at a guess). I swear that there were about two feet between it and me.
_That_ was unnerving.

I was chased down and cut off /twice/ by a taxi recently after tapping
on his window to let him know what I thought of his driving (he
tried to squeeze into a non-existent left-turn lame and got stuck,
forcing me onto the footpath).

I made a mental note of his plate and reported it to the cops, who
aren't taxi drivers' biggest fans. However, I probably won't try that
again.

While we're all having a bitch.. some arsehole in the back
of a white ****box (plates noted for later use ;-) ) driving
down Burke Rd. thought it'd be fun to scream **** into my
ear. Normally traffic is moving quickly by, but this guy was
close and not going so fast so I copped the full brunt. I was
probably in another world too. Suffice to say ****4brains
scared the crap out of me. Adrenalin flowing I chased the
car. The pathetic piece of **** wouldn't wind his window
down so I could tear off his ****ing head - and I think I
could've ripped it straight off his shoulders with the mood
I was in..
All I could do was unload a bunch of language at his
window. I thought about smashing the window, but it
was a rear passenger and I had enough sense not to,
1) criminal damage charges and 2) it wasn't the driver.

On a happier note, or is that a stranger note? someone

Well that's why I 'bumped' into you the other nght. I was
actually stalking you and gathering evidence. Unfortunately,
your arse is nowhere near the quantity required for the GB.

Oh, now you remind me of the granny incident two
weeks ago... I'm in MY lane, trackstanding waiting
for a green light. True, I was to the left of MY lane
but certainly not over the line. A car to my left was
driving up the slip lane and starts beeping at me!
Of course, after many years riding in traffic and
knowing I'm doing nothing wrong, my response is a
barrage of evil words the like of which humanity has
never before encountered..
After **** passes, a lady over a nearby fence tells
me off because the driver was 'just an old lady'.
Ooops.. I didn't know this because I was looking up
the road. I felt quite embarassed. :-S Luckily I'm the
angry 'always right' kind and quickly got over it ;-)

Got that riding down Springvale two-abrest once. Dude was behind us
for a good few kays on the horn the whole time while we are turning
around holding up fingers in the 'peace' vee to indicate 'two abreast'.
There were two lanes he could've used to pass and most other drivers
managed to do a lane split anyway.. idiot.

On Princes Hwy I had truck change into my lane. Either he
didn't see me or underestimated my speed but he came
across AT me. Normally I could bail but this section of road
just had to have no shoulder and a railing over a bridge or
something. I had to hit the brakes and managed to shoot out
the back just in time so he didn't hit me. That was scary!

hippy has slept and is full of stories today.. lookout!
