Actually the Taliban was quite anti-drug until the US invasion. Then, needing more money, they allowed the population to go back to growing poppies. Although I've read that they still don't allow it and that such talk is just propaganda to push the war effort. It's hard to know what to believe. No shortage of poppy fields around Marjah. That area had been under Taliban control for some time. SMH |
