Actually those countries are known for the highest "quality of life" in the world. The MISES Institute says that the U.S. "poor" have more than the middle class in much of Europe. The median household in the US is better off (income-wise) than the median household in all but three European countries. Average income in England is lower than every state in the U.S. except for Alabama and Mississippi. The effective tax rate in Sweden is the highest in the world So essentially they have less and pay more axes than the U.S. but, you claim, they are known for the highest "quality of life" in the world. One can only wonder why the fools immigrate to the U.S. -- cheers, John B. I said I lived in Miami Beach whose wealth is 20 times that of Latin America and life was miserable. Hey! you live in American with all it's freedoms. If you don't like it where you are, just move. After all there are 50 states, you have a wide choice. Or join the Navy and see the world or join the Army and visit many exotic places. The roots grow and it ain't easy to go around. I have some room to go around but there's a problem I will find everywhere in the States: Reckless drivers. Taming traffic is a priority. You see... once again you expose your lack of knowledge. In many states in the Union, traffic is light. Beddington., Maine, for example has a population of 50 people and probably not a whole lot of traffic. But, of course you don't want to live in some podunk little village. You want the big city and unfortunately a big city has a lot of people and a lot of people generally have a lot of cars. Kansas City, Richmond, \Cleveland, Indianapolis and Birmingham apparently have less traffic than any other U.S. city. But it is probably better to just stay in Miami Beach where you can whine and cry about conditions. -- cheers, John B. I already left Miami Beach. To tame traffic we need: 1- SPEED CAMERAS, common sense, 2- NO CELL PHONE, common sense, 3- PASSING LANES, common sense, 4- MORE STRICT LICENSE FOR SUVs, common sense, 5- COPS UNDERCOVER ON BIKE, not so common sense, etc. Are you sure? I ask as in my younger days they didn't have all those devices and, as I remember, speeding was pretty well controlled. I remember when the highway designers came up with the idea of "passing lanes" a third lane in the center to be used only for passing. A brilliant idea except that these lanes immediately gained the name "death lane" due to the increase in accidents. Stricter licensing? Well maybe it is a good idea, but what about bicycles? Perhaps they should be licensed also as in two studies in S. California it was found that half or more bicycle - auto collisions were the fault of the bicycle. Cops on bikes? To catch speeders gong 70 MPH? Brilliant thinking, I must say. -- cheers, John B. Brilliant interpretation. Cops on bikes going 70mph... No you said undercover cops on bikes. I simply asked the implied question, how they were going to effect highway traffic traveling at 70 mph. It's only to lure bad drivers around communities. Are bicycles allowed on highways? I can't say for all of he U.S. but "Highway" seems to be defined as a "major road" so I would guess, that bicycles are allowed. Speed cameras are routinely used in the civilized world to control the worst drivers. You can not expect to tame the beast without the whip. Well, if that is true, and, of course if, the U.S. is considered a civilized county than obviously they have speed cameras and speeding is controlled. The passing lanes are on the outside lane of the highway. If you don't enforce it, you'll have chaos on the road --exactly what we've got. Again, that just isn't correct, in fact Florida Statute 316.084 entitled " When overtaking on the right is permitted" makes no mention whatsoever of a passing lane. You seem to spend an awful lot of time complaining about things, most of which aren't accurate. So, again, why not just move to a place that meets all your requirements? You do know that living in fear for certain lengths of time does result in "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" or "PTSD"? From the Mayo Clinic site: "Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event, either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event." From reading of your posts describing your fear and terror of both walking and riding a bicycle it is beginning to sound much as though you are exhibiting some of the symptoms all ready. -- cheers, John B. |
