Default Availability of SRAM road brifters?

In article ,
says...

Peter Chisholm reported:

Actually confirmed by somebody at Sram...push-smaller cog, push
farther, larger cog.

Alex Rodriguez asked:

I don't see how this would work. How does the lever know you are going to
continue to push further to get to a larger cog?

Think about a roll-up windowshade.

Got it. But I don't know how those work either. I'll have to check one out
to see if I can figure it out. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

The first bit of pull loosens the ratchet-lock, and the next bits ratchet
and put the lock in a state such that when the shade is released it'll
engage again. The SRAM mech might be different, but the same sorts of
basic ideas can be used. Especially if the lock is always in such a state
that it will engage again as the lever is released.
