Default New size for racing chains

I use 3/32" bike chains, and last time I went to buy new
chains, I saw that most of these now are 11/128" wide. Can these
go on my chain wheel and rear sprockets, that are used to 3/32"?
And why the change?

I buy 4-5 cheap chains at a time, and wax them all with MC chain wax,
a bit of a job as I have to melt the wax etc, but I like the result.
