Default My gripe against McBike

The LBS's are disappearing or downsizing due to the entry of the McBike
chains, and this is my gripe. I like boutique wheels, but the McBikes only
sell wheelsets. I already have a closet full of front wheels, since the
rear ones are the wheels that blow up on you. How come it's so difficult to
find just a rear wheel at a reasonable cost?

Building wheels is easy. Learn how to do it and you won't be at their mercy
any longer...

What does 'blow up' mean here? Try not using hydrogen to inflate...g

Anyway, unless the entire wheel is crushed, you should be able to
rebuild them. Jobst's book gives excellent instructions on how to do
this. If you wish, you can use the same instructions to construct a
wheel from all new parts.

I sure wish I had this book or one like it when constructing my first
motorcycle wheel....

With the advent of things like Usenet and the web, easy to find a LBS
that hasn't fallen into the 'McBike' hole. Call me and I can rebuild or
build any of your rear wheels.....

The McBike shops will probably build a single rear wheel for you if you
ask. If not then you can order just rear wheels built with regular
parts from Colorado Cyclist and Excel Sports. Or from one of the bike
shop owners on this forum.
