Rethinking getting Surly Long Haul Trucker frame?

Maybe, but the two-leg Pletscher I have used on several bikes clamps
onto the frame in the same frame-fuxxoring way as normal one--leg
sidestands. I use mine only on bikes that have a kickstand plate.

I put a Hebie-style Y-shaped kickstand on my wife's trailer tow bike,
and after just a few months it has misshapen and made a mess of the
hefty hi-ten steel stays it's mounted to. The way kickstands clamp
on, other than by way of a kickstand plate, is ugly and destructive.
I would most definitely not despoil a nice new frame of decent quality
by crushing it with a kickstand.

KNOW the ski poles used by some hikers ? picture one either side of
the seat post, on pivots. then telescopes down at two angles either
side, supporting load from the top not bottom.

I haven't seen that on bicycles but the small motorcycles used to
carry cargo here commonly use a stand built exactly that way that
attaches to the cargo rack on the back of the bike.

From the link: the chainstay tube walls are not super thick. You can
crush them or flex them to death.

I bet that is why they only have a 3 year warranty.

List on the Soma Saga is the same as the Surly. I like Surlys a lot,
but for a touring rig, the kickstand plate on the Soma would win me
over. Plus, it has panels.

Wonder why touring bicycles do not come equipped with centerstands?

it to be a worthy feature?

by you know who. Walmart does this. There are products TRAITED for Wal
in Baton Rouge or Missoula that are not onh hand in Moriches.
Figure the extra cost of having optional extras on hand. Jeeez, forget
the fishing boat. The factory types chisel on bars and pedal shafts.
