Default Great Men's fall/winter "cycling" shell at Costco for $28

Brand "Black Diamond". It's a multi-sport shell bonded to a very thin
micro-fleece interior. Nearly waterproof. Trim enough fit, but room
for a good sweater. Gusseted sleeves which are plenty long for most
reaches to the bars. Long enough for my torso. Nice little phone/media
pocket.

If this was cycling specific, it would run a good $100.

The bad: no chest or pit vents, nor a cape style back for venting--so
no ultra-hard riding. Good as a town jacket. I took it on a city ride
tonight with a T in 50ish weather and it was not clammy at all. Also,
no reflective stuff on it, but that should be on your bike anyway.

Comes in a few colors, but the black is nice as it looks at home with
spandex, and doesn't look out of place on the town with some jeans.

It's the same as this one:

The nylon is super high quality and fairly matte--not cheap looking.
Machine washable to boot. Looks like I found a replacement for my
ancient Gill Jacket I payed near 6X the dough for!

What colors does your Costco have? Mine only sells these jackets in black,
which is a suicide color for winter cycling.

Shouldn't be too much of an issue with adequate lighting.

Fabric stores such as JoAnn or Hobby Lobby sell strips of reflective taping.
Lowe's and Home Depot sell reflective taping meant to go on hard surfaces.
Get a black jacket and zoot it up!

It would be nice to have reflective piping like on my Gill shell--but
I figure, I've got adequate lighting plus reflectors on my bags and
shoes. No worries here.

Reflective clothing is good for numbnutz roadies that forget to bring
lights, though, and get stuck out after dark. ;-) You see a lot of
those this time of year.

I have a couple of these - Last year's in tan, which has breathable
fleece at the pits, and a new one I bought 2 weeks ago in blue & grey,
but the pits are the same material as the rest of the jacket. Haven't
ridden with either yet, but probably will as the temperature goes
down.

:: Reflectors only work at night when cars have their headlights on.
:: Brightly colored clothing is safer even during the day time,
:: especially during the winter when the sun is lower.

Are you note aware that many newer cars have headlights that run during the
daytime as a standard? Have you not noticed that more people are driving
with headlights on in the daytime for safety? And, yes, even in the daytime
this can flash back toward the headlights and catch the driver's eyes. I
vote for both brightly colored clothing AND reflective piping.
