Invention of the mixte?

I'm very curious about the invention of the mixte bicycle frame. Who
invented it? Was it frequently used when invented? Is it still used a
lot today? What are the most popular mixte brands?

I remember that mixte was popular for French women's bikes during the 1970s
and 1980s. Haven't seen it much since then.

I was at Interbike in Las Vegas this past week and there were several
Mixte models being displayed. More practical retro bikes were all the
rage, though many of them were so expensive that you'd need financing to
buy them.

I also enjoyed 37 different gels and goos, and 17 different energy bars
and 28 different energy drinks. Funniest thing was one vendor of chamois
cream who packaged it in packets very similar in appearance to energy
gels. They said they often get people calling asking if it's toxic,
after mistakenly eating it.
