I've been cycling seriously now for about two years and I'm on the verge
of beginning competitive racing. That's a big investment of time and
effort. If you stop cycling for a couple of weeks, you lose *so* much
of what you've gained. I'm hoping I'll only lose a week and that's bad
enough.

You are making a mountain out a molehill.

You get it back again so quickly though. It really is only temporary.

A real cyclist would have riddent through the pain :-)

If I miss karate for a couple of weeks, I get into a situation where I

know
what moves my body is meant to be doing, but it just doesn't want to do
them. A week or so later, and I'm back to normal again.

A fortnight's lay off becasue of muscle strains - far more serious than a
piddling blister had a little affect on my cycling . a day or so after
resuming things fell back into place.

A week or so really is very minor. Presumably you can still exercise other
bits of yourself as well.

It's all a matter of pain threshold, the black knight could teach us a thing
or two about sporting injuries....

BLACK KNIGHT:
None shall pass.
ARTHUR:
What?
BLACK KNIGHT:
None shall pass.
ARTHUR:
I have no quarrel with you, good Sir Knight, but I must cross this bridge.
BLACK KNIGHT:
Then you shall die.
ARTHUR:
I command you, as King of the Britons, to stand aside!
BLACK KNIGHT:
I move for no man.
ARTHUR:
So be it!
ARTHUR and BLACK KNIGHT:
Aaah!, hiyaah!, etc.
[ARTHUR chops the BLACK KNIGHT's left arm off]
ARTHUR:
Now stand aside, worthy adversary.
BLACK KNIGHT:
'Tis but a scratch.
ARTHUR:
A scratch? Your arm's off!
BLACK KNIGHT:
No, it isn't.
ARTHUR:
Well, what's that, then?
BLACK KNIGHT:
I've had worse.
ARTHUR:
You liar!
BLACK KNIGHT:
Come on, you pansy!

- Richard (still wondering if the blister is in the region of the pants,

or
if the title of this thread is not so relevant to its subject :-/)

Back of heel. Now if it were in the groin then I too might be reluctant to
ride....

That new skin stuff from Germoline stung a good deal when applied.
Formed a sort of skin-like surface, but came off this morning. Prolly
has some use. I think I prefer plasters, they don't hurt.

Nonononono! Compeed is what you want! The tried and true remedy for
blisters. Honest.

You all appreciate it's post-blister, right? the blister skin shed, and
now it's healing over.

Yes. That's a good time to apply Compeed.

Absolutely. Compeed is still the stuff. Trust me, Reading is near
the Shoe Event Horizon.

Live and learn. I now appreciate how devestating sporting injury is,
and I've only lost a week or so of cycling.

FFS! It's only a blister!

Yup. And it means I can't ride, just as effectively as a broken leg.
And not riding for a week is not riding for a week, no matter how it
happened.

I think my response is appropriate.
