27 weeks in jail

Seems rather harsh when, for the same offence, a motorist would get a
£60 fine at most. And that would be if the 'it was just a momentary
lapse of concentration' or the 'I pay rudetax' defences failed.

Had it been a car or van, pedestrians would have hurriedly gathered
their offspring in, scolded or punished any for being slow and then
meekly stepped aside like the parting of the Red Sea. Yet a person on
a bike following 3 seconds behind the car/van would be the scum law
breaking cyclist that causes people to swoon in terror.

In Reading there are two main town centre precincts: one has signage to
specifically allow cycling (though I think it is unsuitable and I do not
understand why cycling is allowed), another (but more suitable one,
IMHO) has signage to stop cycling. I am told the signage is incorrect on
the one that attempts to prohibit so don't have legal force. It
would be interesting to know whether this is true and whether it applies
in other similar places. And if so, whingers (you know who you are) can
put their complaints where the sun don't shine.

In a precinct in a local suburb there is a parking area for the disabled
and bike stands right round the parking bays:

At times people park on the double yellow lines with two wheels on the
pavement (I must be imagining this, surely?). It would be interesting to
see the authorities try to enforce no cycling on the road part.

For information to the moronist faction here, I don't ride on any of the
areas described. (Though I am tempted to ride up and down the third one
some day.)
