Default Mislead of the Day

Although we don't hear of any Department of Homeland Security
activities in the news, the voters get to hear an earful, regularly,
depending on where they vote.

RIDGE AND RICE POLITICIZE SECURITY

Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge told reporters, "we don't do
politics in the Department of Homeland Security."[1] But a new
analysis by the Associated Press reveals that the travel schedule of
Ridge and other top DHS officials are influenced by political
considerations.

According to the report, in the past seven months nearly three-fifths
of Ridge's travel has been to "the 17 states considered the most hotly
contested in the presidential election."[2] In the same time period,
22 senior officials "did nearly half their public events in those 17
states."[3] Sue Mencer, who heads the Office of Domestic Preparedness
for DHS, recently traveled to Ohio - a key battleground state - "to
deliver a grant that had been awarded weeks earlier."[4]

National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice has also "traveled across
the country making speeches in key battleground states, including
Oregon, Washington, North Carolina and Ohio."[5] In the next few days
"she also plans speeches in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Florida."[6]
White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan denied the appearances
were politically motivated.[7]

Yeah, no fear-mongering among the Dems at all! Old people, black people,
sick people, young people...

I'm talking about Cheney's reference to a vote for Kerry being akin to
asking for a terrorist attack. The Bush campaign knows that talking
about the threat of terrorist attacks is good for poll numbers.
They've admitted as much through the Schmidt fellow who works with
Rove on the campaign. That's real fear tactics, which is nothing like
saying "you won't have insurance unless you vote for Kerry." C'mon,
Bill; you know the difference between apples and oranges.

First of all, please stop top-posting, as it's a PITA to fix.

Second, Cheney didn't say a vote for Kerry would invite a terrorist attack.
What he actually SAID was that going back to treating terrorism as a
law-enforcement matter would increase the danger of another successful
attack.

Third, the Kerry campaign is lying about the draft, privatizing Medicare,
disenfranchising voters (esp. blacks), etc. They'll say ANYTHING to either
get elected or raise doubt about the legitimacy of their more probable loss.

Bill "and it's only getting worse these last few weeks" S.

Cheney apparently hasn't gotten around the reading the 9/11 Commission
Report yet.

Ah, it's politics. Whaddya expect? Both sides are lying through
their teeth. Bush & Co. just had a head start.

And isn't that just a silly thing to say. Everything done publicly by
elected and appointed officials is political. Why lie about it?
