Good Lord. Bicycles have been turned up side
down for maintenance for a hundred years or
more and now you say it won't work?

It is not optimal for many tasks.

But, when I was 12 years old it worked for every thing I did to my
bicycle then :-)

A long enough table? Squat down, or sit on
a box.

I'll only consider serious suggestions...

Well, seriously :-) buy or make a bike stand.

Indeed. I have found stands in three shops:

Biltema ("car theme") - height is only
1.5 meter.

Jula - the clamp is really bad. I like to think
my hands aren't the softest but still it hurts
like hell rotating the spring nut. After that,
the frame isn't still.

Skurk Ohlson (Crooks"RUs) - they have an
Italian stand that seems OK, however I have
read a couple of customer reviews on there home
page and the one complain that reoccurs is the
clamp. And that is the thing. I want it to snap
open and then suck the frame shut in
an instant!

So perhaps I need to get this from the UK as
well - only what stand exactly I still don't
know...

I find that probably the majority of the time I use a stand I just
hang the bike in the clamp without tightening. For example, adjusting
the front or rear derailer there is no need to tighten the clamp.

I build my own stands but if I were going to buy a stand I would look
seriously at Park Tools. Not always the cheapest but what I have
purchased from them has always been quality equipment.

OK, your stand is better than mine, for sure.

Not necessarily better, but certainly cheaper as I built it out of
material left over from other projects :-)
