Much thanks to JD, Bill Porter, and Bill O'Neil for the photos. I just
wanted to get a little taste out there before Porter and JD put up their
ride reports.

I was a little bummed with the moto-damage as well in the upper
sections. It was not that bad in 2003. Of course JD got the full
experience of the damage by bringing along the rigid bike.

Here is the video from the ride. It is 9:10 minutes long and 70MB in
size.

The camping was so nice, I think I going to take the family up there in
a week or so.

Spent three days riding that area last week. On Sunday, I was with a large
group that did the Plunge. The hike-a-bike GT talked about half way down
the Plunge was almost cleaned by a female (Joy) in our group. She walked
alot of the rocky sections but she hammered the uphills.

I'm heading back up there the weekend of the 15th. Do some easy riding
with Kimberly and hike or ride out to the Needles overlook.

Your group has some fantastic pictures, I especially like the ones of
the bikes and riders hanging out at Cannell Station.

BTW, you're a much better man than I. I can't imagine escorting such a
large group of riders with such varying skills down Cannell.

We only had a group of 4, and between my out of shapeness, Porter's
respiratory problems in the first half of the ride, and some small
mechanicals it was definitely a long day. Of the four of us only Bill
O'Neil was fresh enough to go back and do it again if he had had the time.

Did you guys get the "blast furnace" effect about 2/3rds down the Plunge?
All nice and cool (moderate), then turn a corner and WHAM -- hit in the face
with /really/ hot air that lasts the last two hours of the ride.

Bill "burgers -- or was it fried chicken? -- in Kernville" S.

Oh, yeah, and I'm sure Dean's group experienced it to greater effect
since it was much warmer this weekend. I'm really glad we went the
weekend that we did.

For us, excellent Mexican food, although for O'Neil the food wasn't very
hot when it arrived.

No there was an slightly overcast that made things bearable, not hot until
the last section to the highway.

Since it was my first time on that trail I welcomed the slow pace...time to
enjoy and take pictures.

We ended up with 31 people on the ride. Miracle no major problems.

Jeff (Jfish) from MTBR was a great guide the two days prior.

I'd say almost knocking oneself out like that one guy did is pretty
close to a major problem. It all seemed to be teetering on the edge
from the very first post. You all had The Man In The Clouds looking
after you that day.

It was that first pic that did it for me.

Just a campsite. Could be anywhere, any country, any hemisphere. Just camping gear, folding chairs, tent,
cooking gear, water, prepared day packs and so on, they could be there for any outdoor activity.
BUT I think it was the sight of that bike stand that got me all emotional.
I'm old and decrepit and cant ride much these days. I've worn out another pair of bedroom slippers just pottering about the garden.
I enjoy reading these posts in the same way I enjoy standing outside the lbs looking at all the shiny goodies in the shop window. Memories huh!

I think I'll go now and put some air in the tyres, just in case.

To add to that, on the other side of that log in the pictures is a
trail that you could take for miles and miles....:-)
