This was posted on alt.mountain-bike. Pretty amazing. (I didn't read ALL
the captions, but it's hard not to as it progresses.) Good perspective on how things deteriorated over time... http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slidesho...Uy=nyvoby&Ux=1 |

Bill, thanks for posting that ... off topic though it may be. That's
compelling stuff. I have a sister who graduated from Tulane and I'll be forwarding that link to her. -- Bob C. "Of course it hurts. The trick is not minding that it hurts." T. E. Guess they didn't appreciate all the traffic? Oh, well. It was quite something; if I see it again somewhere I'll post a link... |

Alas...album not found . Some before, during, and after photos. The photographer griping that the "media" only showed pictures of the worst damage, and then he has a slide show of looters, damaged buildings, destroyed cars, flooding -- in other words, the exact same photos you see from AP and Reuters. The photographer confessing his anxiety about being the only white people in a sea of black people at the Convention Center. RFM |

I heard a radio interview with the editor of the Times-Picayune where he explained that reporters were pedalling all over town, collecting info, riding back to HQ and filing stories. And that's how the levee breaches got discovered--on bikes. (Take that, Vandespam.) HTH --Karen D. |

Hardly. (And what percentage of the photos were of looting? Less than 5? 3?) My wife told me this morning to go see the doctor about my sinus infection. I'm being *way* too grouchy to her, the kids and the dogs. And apparently on Usenet also. One caption out of about 240 pics? (Struck me as being pretty honest about a VERY tense situation at that point.) I'm somewhat accustomed to hanging out with the brothahs. I appreciated the honesty and realize that many Americans would probably feel the same way. I also know that this anxiety is likewise felt by some African-Americans when they're in the realm of the white folks. RFM |

(I grew up in the Washington, DC area and played trombone in a couple of otherwise-all-Black soul bands, so I'm no stranger to feeling like Willy White Bread, either. Was always quite comfortable; never felt threatened or intimidated.) I thought the pictorial as told from a resident's POV was pretty compelling -- especially the "immediate aftermath" stuff where everyone thought they'd come through the storm nearly scott-free. (At that point /no one/ knew the flood waters were coming.) Oh well. Maybe it's cached somewhere? |
