You got me thinking Gemma, and it occurred to me that I don't remember
ever having a photo taken of me while I'm riding. I guess it's easier
when you race and you've got friends/family watching.

Not Mr Burns but I'm sure some of his relatives run the place.
Doh!

I was going to see what's available and pick something in the
lower/middle range. 63xc guys suggest high 60's or low 70's but that's
probably for offroad fixie riding and might be too low?

I agree. You don't want anything too small as you'll find you'll be
spinning out on the downhills and with longer cranks this would become a
little uncomfortable (more throw). Shorter cranks with these smaller gears
would probably be ok. It's all a trade off against what you are able to
push uphill and what you can spin down hill.

The SS is 32:15 with 175mm cranks and 26" wheels w/ slicks. I find
myself spinning out quite and bit and it really needs to be geared
higher, but I like it on those days when I'm really tired (often).

I got a new fastest cadence the other day on it: 34 x 6.. um.. racks
notoriously slow brain.. 204bpm Cracked 200! I want a cadence
computer though, for an official reading. I find it really hard to
actually count as fast as I can pedal!

If you are riding a fixed gear you don't need a cadence computer. A
standard bike computer will do (max and avg functions are optional). Then
all you need then is to find a spreadsheet that outputs cadence values given
certain variables such as cog size, chainwheel size, wheel circumference and
velocity (try www.fixedgearfever.com for one of these). Most of the values
are fixed so during a ride the only value to vary is velocity. So all you
need to know is at a certain velocities you are doing this many rpm, store
this information away in the brain and take it with you when you go out on
the road.

You may need to look at something in the 165-170 range if this is
likely to be a problem.

I wanted to fit 165mm to match my track setup.

Another piece of advice is to use a quality chainring. The rounder the
chainring the less likely you are to throw a chain. If the chainring is
not perfectly round then you will see the tension of the chain drop or
increase significantly as the cranks are turned. I'll leave it to your
imagination the potential carnage due throwing chain off the ring and
it then becoming stuck between the spider and the crankarm.

Damn my imagination! Sounds painful.. I will have to start trying to
skid the bike as soon as it's built for handling these emergency
situations.. mmm skids..

If you don't have a lockring I would not recommend locking up the back wheel
to stop. You never know when the rear cog might let go. Personally I
prefer to use the brakes (Front and Rear) in combination with light backward
pressure to slow me down.

I've also got some shots from Sunday's Track Worlds that will go
up when I have, I mean, when I -make- time..

I went to the Worlds on Saturday night and what a night it was. I guess you
would have had a similar experience being there on Sunday. Wasn't the crowd
great.

Tell me about it! I'm trying to decide what gearing I should up the S
to. I spin out too often but at the same time I don't want to end u
walking up a hill when my legs are dead. The driveline is nearly dead s
it will need replacement soon anyway.

I'm not sure if either the ENO or the Miche track groupset come with
lock ring. It's not too expensive so I don't see why I'd not use one

I'm sure this will be the case most of the time, but I just want t

Yeah, it was awesome. The crowd were really into it. When one of th
Aussies was on the track, you'd hear "I come from the land downunder.
start to play". I was yelling and throwing my arms up when one of th
Aussies did well, etc. GREAT STUFF

Nope, inconclusive. We need rear shots, ladies, beforee we can determine
the aus.bicycle Lard Butt Champion 2004.
