Default suspension forks adjustment

Hi

I have nearly finished building a swb recumbent based on a 20" wheel mtb.
This was to suit a child about 8 years old, the front forks are a little
soft (probably made to suit a childs weight) is there any way to stiffen
them up a bit by stripping them down and replacing or packing the springs.

thanks

Gary
