Went out there to see what all the fuss is about. There were abou
twenty or so riders in B grade, the track is bumpy and the pace wa
more than fast enough for me. Several people tried to get away i
breaks, but they were mercilessly chased down. One of my few highlight
was substantially chasing down a couple of breaks myself.

The sprinters took off a little earlier than I thought (into th
hairpin, rather than just after), but it probably didn't make muc
difference. So I finished around midfield as everyone arrived more o
less together. Doh! (although I never claimed to be a sprinte
anyway).

Just a thought - we averaged about 38km/h - the Mansfield criterium a
the HST averaged 48...(sigh)

Is it a trickier course? 20 riders in B grade - is
that more or less than the other place? I think
there was about 70 in N grade today and then
A and B combined at the finish, even with extra
time - not good
HST?
Fastest Glenvale C today (this season)
40.4kph for 58min.

When I first when up to B grade a couple of years ago, we'd be looking
at not much more than that (maybe ~41-41.5 kmh ?), now according to my
computer, we've been 43 kmh for every race I've been in this season.
Suprisngly, D grade looks like it's gone backwards (ahh for D grade a
lapping the field...)

It's gotta be due to size of the fields, which seem to be going up all
the time (except D grade, maybe since more people are just giving it a
go in D grade ?)

I don't wanna rain on your sunny day, but are you sure you want to be
chasing breaks down ? Consider the chase monkey who chases down
breaks for no real reason, never seem to be actually forging a break
and end up mid field. Meanwhile the tracky sprinters with powder keg
thighs, say "thanks chase ape, have a banana and move over while I do
my thing"

For what it's worth, unless your chasing is tactical, in that the
sprinters are your buddies and your making sure they are up there come
sprint, never chase. Let the other monkeys do it (there is always
someone who will), and conserve your energy for an assault to bridge
to the break, or, go for it your self.

Unless, of course, in Lance fashion, you go, "I hate that guy and I'm
gonna spoil his break".....

Which I'll confess to doing at times. Now where's my banana...

Yeah, the fields seem huge compared to last year. I reckon they will
need to split the grades up (Canberra goes to G with 18 people the
largest grade!! see Aeeek's post elsewhere). There is a massive
difference between D and C it seems. Maybe there should be a D+
grade or a D.5 grade as an intermediate step?

hehehe you read my mind!

I find that sometimes I'm just "there" when someone goes and it's just
my natural reaction to chase them. Other times I think if a couple of
us
can get away, we stand a much better chance of placing than muggins
going solo..

I love the comments about the D grade dude :-)

What's with A-grade only racing 40min? I think
D grade do more than that here?
