Interesting videos about carbon fiber bicycle & wheels
Saw these yesterday. The ones about carbon fiber wheels explains to move to disc brakes on road bikes because of problems with carbon fiber clincher rims. The guy goes as far as to say that ANY carbon fiber clincher rim is a poor design and he explains why he says that.

(Part Two) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFdG2NgIc7s The "unbranded" wheels are made in the same factory with all the same materials on the same equipment. The latest Chinese Clincher wheels actually are better built than the older wheels. The problem on ALL wheels is that over-inflation WILL cause delamination so you have to use fatter tires with lower pressure and be very careful not to over-inflate. This is a bit difficult to judge when you're using a CO2 cartridge. Disk brakes stop the problem of overheating the rims brome braking. |

This is a bit difficult to judge when you're using a CO2 cartridge. Disk brakes stop the problem of overheating the rims brome braking. I bought a single front Chinese Clincher (only) From Superteam. This wheel is absolute dynamite. All of my bikes now are rim brakes though the Emonda has direct mount brakes. The advantages you'd expect from direct mount brakes so not seem to be present (stiffer mounting requiring less brake lead etc.) Interesting item. A friend of mine has a Trek Madone that reamed out its BB90 to the point where it can't be repaired. So they are going to give him a 2020 Madone. He was sort of upset because it has disks only now. But one of the improvements is that the BB90 has been changed to a T47 bottom bracket so if you have trouble with it you simply unscrew it and replace it with a new one. I've been trying to convince him that once he uses a disk he will never go back but all he sees is the additional expense of buying all of the necessary parts. So I found him a set of disk wheels for $80 and the Cheapo hydraulic levers for $290 delivered so he could hardly complain about that. $400 to have a new top end bike is pretty good in my book. |
