Police work hard to keep our roads safe and sometimes they are forced to pull over vehicles for putting others at risk.

Across the region traffic police patrol our roads and motorways on the lookout for drivers breaking the rules. This week alone, Humberside Police stopped multiple speeders and drivers who were travelling without insurance.

Here is a look at of some of the vehicles stopped by the traffic cops in and around Hull this week...

On Tuesday police stopped a car after wwo (SIC) trips round the roundabout in Willerby and soon discovered the driver did not had insurance.

Humber Roads Police tweeted: Following two trips round the roundabout on Kingston Road in Willerby we have a vehicle stopped.

Driver found to have no insurance and 9 points on their licence. They've now been summonsed to court for the offence.

The following day the force caught a driver, who already had 12 points on their licence, breaking the speed limit on the A1033 which runs between Hull and Withernsea.

Police tweeted: You would think with 12 points on your licence already you would count yourself lucky you were not banned the first time and avoid attracting attention!

66mph flying past others sticking to the limit. Summonsed to court. Moments later they pulled over another vehicle on the same road, which was travelling at 66mph in a 40 zone.

Police noted vehicle speeds had increased following the easing of lockdown rules and tweeted: Second vehicle within a couple of minutes of the last - 66mph in a 40.

This driver on 9 points already - due to the speed/likelihood of a ban further court summons. Vehicle speeds continue to be higher than normal since easing of lockdown restrictions.

In another incident on Wednesday, Road Policing Units stopped a silver Renault in Goole. The driver insisted they had insurance from a previous vehicle but police checks found otherwise and the vehicle was seized.

Police tweeted: “Good evening from Hull. Early start this evening. This vehicle was spotted by divisional officers from Goole and stop by RPU. Driver was adamant they had insurance from previous vehicle. However after checks vehicle was seized.

On Thursday, the police found a car abandoned in Hall Road, north Hull.

Further checks showed the vehicle was without insurance and CCTV showed the car being driven earlier that evening. Police tweeted: While on patrol this vehicle was located abandoned in a bus stop.

Checks revealed vehicle had no insurance. CCTV had shown vehicle being driven earlier in the evening before being abandoned.Â

And on Friday, a food delivery driver was stopped in Hedon Road in a hurry to get orders to customers. The vehicle was doing more than 80mph in a 40mph zone and had a bald tyre.

Police said it is not the first time they have noticed delivery drivers pushing the speed limits in recent weeks and tweeted: Fast food. A1033, Hedon Road Friday evening - food delivery driver stopped in excess of 80mph in a 40mph zone....with a bald tyre!

Due to higher demand on takeaways we are seeing delivery drivers pushing the speed limits."

The people behind the wheels of those vehicles will soon be cyclists (if
they're not already).

It'll be all they're qualified for. And it could, on reflection, explain
a few things.

Doesn't that all kind of just demonstrate that car drivers and
cyclists set up and face different consequences when they fail to obey
traffic law (i.e. they can't be compared as being equal to each
other)? Car driver's and cyclist's law breaking differ from each other
in terms of practicability and danger in capacity to harm others?

I suppose it could explain where some of the supply of "new cyclists" is
coming from.

I don't doubt some of the 'new cyclists' will indeed be previous
cyclists who thought they had graduated forever to becoming car
drivers but it was eventually found to be shown that they were not
responsible and capable enough to be allowed to drive such powerful
motor driven machines with the level of harm they can potentially
present to other road users. And so these ex-drivers are once again
only legally permitted to ride the less potentially harmful bicycle.

I am sure responsible cyclists no more want these 'new cyclists'
anymore than responsible drivers want them to remain as legally
qualified drivers, but there it is.

.... and so could only be trusted with bicycles*, given their levels of
skill and sociopathy.

You won't find me in much disagreement with you on that.

[* Even that is only because the law effectively has to trust them with
bicycles.]

But any rule breaking will be an irritation, not a danger. Which makes
a difference.

Tell that to the bereaved relatives of the pedestrians.

Given the courts have very restricted punishments at their disposal to
drivers that kill, I expect turning the perpetrator into an irritant is
probably sometimes the best the relatives can hope for.

How many innocent people do UK drivers kill every day now - is it 7 or 8?

QUOTE:
Police have clocked a motorist speeding at 120mph on the M62.

Officers caught the driver racing along the motorway at Howden on Monday morning just as the National Speed Reduction Campaign starts. Humber Roads Police tweeted a picture of the speed gun recording the shocking speed, which is 50mph over the 70mph speed limit.

The tweet says: "The National Speed Campaign starts today. A motorist was caught on the M62 near Howden this morning.

"No excuses for this speed and a trip to court in the near future!" Humberside Police have warned the NHS is already under strain due to the pandemic and treating road traffic casualties will put further pressure on hospital staff.

Speaking last week prior to the launch of the speeding campaign, the head of Humberside Police's Specialist Operations Unit (SOU), Chief Superintendent Christine Wilson, said: “We always want people to be safe on our roads – but that’s particularly important now.

"We want to do all we can to take extra care and avoid putting any additional strain on our hospitals as a result of road traffic collisions. “During the national speed reduction campaign, we, alongside Safer Roads Humber, will continue to enforce speed limits for the safety of all roads users and making sure people are aware of the dangers of speeding.

"Speed safety camera vans will be at locations throughout the region and officers will be targeting speeding motorists. Chief Supt Wilson says the force has noticed a rise in speeding during the coronavirus lockdown as motorists took advantage of the quieter roads.

She said: “Speed can have a significant effect on the severity of collisions and having monitored the average speed on a number of different routes across the force area, what has been really concerning is that we have seen some really significant top end speeds recently.

"One driver was caught doing 116mph in a 60mph limit – almost double the speed limit - and these are the kinds of speeds we need to stop before people get really badly hurt.

“The more vehicles take to the roads and the volume of traffic increases the average speed will naturally start to fall."

I always wonder why it is necessary to embellish stories like this.
Though, given the way journalists (particularly the BBC) love to show
off their prowess with a calculator, I am surprised they haven't given
it as a percentage.

We were referring, of course, to cyclists who kill.

I bet you'll try to get away bwith the old, old, lie, that cyclists
never hurt anyone.

Did 116 mph become really dangerous at the exact moment Barbara Castle
got her 70mph limit through the Commons, or did it take a while before
this previously quite legal speed became unsafe?
