Best Hybrid Components
Okay,
If you had a Trek 7300FX frame to build a great (street) hybrid around, what would you suggest for the components?? To be used for mainly street, but with trail tendancies. Let's assume I am willing to spend around Shimano XT $$ level for these components also, as a rule of thumb anyway. Let also assume that I will be upgrading to 9 speed from the stock 8. I don't need bulletproof, but I would like high quality and lightweight. Also, what would be the best and lightest fork upgrade (non-suspension). Anyway, I need a new 'project' and I love to tinker and learn, so I appreciate the help. Jason |

Jason Jason- If you want to upgrade all of the components *and* the fork, I think you'll find it less expensive to simply buy the 7500FX or even 7700FX complete bikes. You could buy a carbon fiber cyclocross fork, but that would be quite a mis-match for the frame (the higher models have lighter-weight frames). As for tinkering, sure, why not? There's no rule that says you can't disassemble and put back together a stock bike, and maybe modify a few things if you wish. --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles www.ChainReactionBicycles.com |

Maybe I would watch the sales at the LBS or Ebay and piece together upgraded pieces and install them in 'groups'. For instance, I could buy a derailer and install in now if ot works with my current set-up, or wait until I have complimentary pieces. Sure. I could just buy a new bike, but I think I get almost as much fun with planning/ doing the 'build' as I do riding And I look at it as a great way to learn. I could go out and easily drop $1000 on a new bike today, but a $100 a month or so in parts over a year is easier to hide from the wife...errr...well, you get it BTW, what size of front derailer does the 7300fx take? Thanks Again! J |

What's it for, bike path racing? |
