Seems that only the handlebar rotated in the stem. If it had been properly tightened in the first place it might not have come loose. Cheers |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkMnk_eCDQU When inline skating on a downhill, you can pass a speed of no return at which speed you can no longer control your speed except by crashing. And then being on the street with a car driver tailgating you while honking, knowing that the asshole might run over you if you fall. But at least that way maybe I would've gotten their license plate number. |

Even with that the WalMart MTB held up pretty well. Seems that only the handlebar rotated in the stem. If it had been properly tightened in the first place it might not have come loose. The front, frame, or both shocks were leaking oil after landing on the first jump (5:41). The stem was loose in two places...the handlebars because it was secured with only 2 bolts and the front wheel (5:44) probably due to insufficient grip on the steering tube. I've seen bicycles where no amount of "adjustment" will produce a good grip due to stem/fork size mismatch. I couldn't tell what was wrong here, but my guess(tm) is a badly designed, built, or selected stem. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/handsup.html At the beginning of the video, the owner did do some adjusting to the brakes, so I can assume he also inspected the bike for a loose stem. Also, the brakes pads had completely failed or worn out (not clear which one). At least it didn't break a weld. That would take some more suicidal jumps without brakes. -- Jeff Liebermann 150 Felker St #D http://www.LearnByDestroying.com Santa Cruz CA 95060 http://802.11junk.com Skype: JeffLiebermann AE6KS 831-336-2558 |
