Hmm! Unlike us they have recharging points for electric bikes, and
solar no less!. Give it another 20 years or so and we might possibly
follow suit.

Two years ago I was amazed by the number of bikes on the streets in Japan.
Near the river in Tokyo I came across an underground bike park with a
stairway leading out which had a wheel slot next to the stairs in which was
running a form of conveyor belt - you simply pushed your wheels into the
slot at the bottom and the conveyor did the work of getting you bike to the
top. Elsewhere there was a multistory car park; except it wasn't a car
park it was a bike park. In Kyoto the local authority (it didn't look like
the police) arrived at the station with a flat bed truck and hoovered up all
the bikes hanging off railings etc - they filled that flat bed.

We can only dream about such things, though they do remove our bikes
from some railings. Trust us to get the bad and not much of the good.

Judging by adverts we can probably expect to see more electric bikes
on our streets in the future though I haven't seen many yet. They
certainly take the strain out of cycling while still providing some
exercise, useful for the elderly or disabled or those with health
problems..

I wonder who paid for it all?

Q. Why don't they put pockets in lycra cycling shorts?
A. Because cyclists never put their hands in their pockets.
