Cheap 6v 4aH SLA Batteries
For those not frightened of carrying an anchor on their bike these SLA batteries are really cheap. Just got the "Supercheap Auto" flier and they have those million candle power rechargeable lamps on sale for $9.99 For 10 bucks you get a 6v 4aH SLAB, a wall transformer, a crude battery charging circuit inside the lamp, a 55watt 6volt halogen lamp and a reflector. Jaycar currently have the same size batteries for $23. All that stuff for less than the cost of 2AA 2.5amp Ni-MH cells. Battery fits nicely inside a M16 ammo pouch. Simple job to open the lamp up, extract battery, poke around for a convient spot to drill a hole for the wires that were on the battery so that they will pass out through the case and attach to the battery for charging. Re assemble the lamp. Attach the charger to the lamp as normal. Of course the light itself is totally useless for bike use. After about 5 minutes the battery strains to keep the 55watt globe at full brightness. Good for "spotting" possums in the top of the palm trees. Cant resist a bargain. Cheers Hugh -- HughMann |

OTOH, I shudder to think about the forty, free 40Ah i considered collecting. "Battery fits nicely inside a M16 ammo pouch." must make things easier to see (to shoot) with that M16 you're carrying -- flyingdutch |

Usually only one or two cells in them are actually cactus and you can build up a 12V pack for nix with better power/weight than an lump of SLA. |

Is it difficult to test the individual cells, and what equipment is needed? Source for "undead" ones? Too many questions! -- roshea |
