http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2010/06/...-less-than-20/

http://healthyamericans.org/reports/obesity2010/

( I can't find the stat but Missisippi was the worst state in the
early 90s with 14% obese, now the BEST state is 5% above that)

Super Size Us....

Take a look at this map. See that blue state in a sea of red and
purple hues? It’s Colorado, the only state in the union with an adult
obesity rate below 20%. (”Just” 19.1% of its residents are obese.)

We’re talking obesity here — defined as a body mass index of 30 or
higher, or about 180-plus pounds for a 5′5″ person — not merely
overweight (defined as a BMI of between 25 and 30).

The annual “F as in Fat” report from the Trust for America’s Health
and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has precious little good news for
people concerned about obesity as a public-health problem. (As the
NYT wrote yesterday, some people think this concern is “a pointless
and hysterical national fuss” and are protesting by purposefully
gaining weight — and, of course, blogging about it.)

Adult obesity rates rose in 28 states last year, the report says. (For
statistical purposes, rates represent a three-year average, so this
year is a comparison of 2007-2009 data with 2006-2008 data.) In eight
states, more than 30% of the population is obese. Mississippi tops (?)
the list, with an adult obesity rate of 33.8%, and the South in
general is where rates of obesity and obesity-related diseases such as
diabetes are highest.

Washington, D.C. actually saw a decline in obesity rates, but no
states did the same.

Among the other findings:

* Adult obesity rates for blacks and Latinos are generally higher
than for whites, and in nine states, 40%-plus of blacks are obese.
* Obesity and income are correlated — the more you earn, the less
likely you are to be obese.
* Education levels are also correlated with obesity; the obesity
rate among people who didn’t graduate from high school is 33.6%, vs..
22% for people with a college degree.
* In a dozen states, more adults reported getting absolutely no
regular physical activity beyond their jobs.
* It’s not likely a coincidence that the fattest state,
Mississippi, also has the highest rate of physical inactivity in
adults. There was a lot of overlap in the most-obese and least-active
lists.
* Nineteen states saw their adult diabetes rates rise
significantly; in West Virginia, Mississippi and Alabama, rates exceed
11%. (Again, there was a lot of overlap with the most-obese list.)

You’ll notice we didn’t mention kids; the information on obesity rates
among 10-to-17-year-olds isn’t collected as often, and the most recent
data were included in last year’s report.

Dumbass,

It's Chung Chart time!

I'm in Germany right now. You know the American
stereotype of Germans as roly poly Sergeant Schultzes?
Guess who is laughing now. Sure there are people
who look like that here, but mostly not, even with their
diets of German food. Maybe it's because they have
such small refrigerators, and markets with fresh food.
Every time I come back to the US, I have to re-accustom
myself to the wide, expansive fatness of the American
landscape.

1990 colorado and 9 other states less than 10% - no state worse than
14%

2008 colorado at 18.5% and 49 states with more than 20% fatties.

I doubt whether selling fat chicks to the Chinese will reduce the deficit.

I think if you plotted a graph comparing use of blood pressure
medications vs. incidence of obesity you see the real reason America
is growing fat. Nah! You don't want to know the truth.
Bahahahaaaa.

Lipo for everyone. We'll sell their own fat asses back to
them as soap. It will be beautiful.

If I read fifty or a hundred research papers; digested
them; and a couple had reliable, specific data; and
most of the papers were consistent with one another;
then I might see; but I have not done that research,
and will not.
