Not that I'll ever see them again, details a Orange P7 fully rigid bike, old but well loved. Tioga bar ends, SPDs, Topeak rack, slick tyres. Silver grey colour. Halfords Apollo Tdf-100. Bright yellow aluminium framed road bike. SPDs, Topeak tool pack under seat. That was one of the Halfords specials discussed on the group. I think I rode it three times... London area. Very annoying. Happened to me a month or so ao. Only consolation is that if insured you get to buy some new stuff. Sure the tweaking and accessories are a pnnoying and the attachment is gone but a couple of new bikes should hopefully ease the pain. |

I think it's something the insurance coys have got against bikes. I had a lawnmower (not cheap; a good quality ride-on thing, more like a tractor) nicked from a shed. The shed was pretty remote from the house (you wouldn't have seen or heard anything), was not locked , glass had gone from windows years ago. A totally insecure ruin. I wrote it off and put it down to experience. My wife, however, had gone ahead and phoned the insurance company who sent a chap round. I was a bit worried that they'd think we were trying it on a bit. No worries though; insurance man says that a shed's a shed and shortly after I get a cheque. I was gobsmacked. I gave up insuring bikes when I realised that the chances of any payout were microscopically small. |

Both myself and my brother had loads of bikes stolen over the past
years or so, (ranging from stolen from railings, bike lock up point when out and about to being jumped at traffic lights etc) and after th first incident when the household insurers refused to pay out, w changed the cover to Co-Op and they have been excellent, paying out o every bike that has been stolen since. Just need to make sure that yo tell them the bike was shackled with a D type lock and they will b fine. There was one incident a year or two ago, when a £1500 mtb wa stolen that was locked up with a kryptonite chain style lock (**** know how they stole it!!) and then insurance dude asked us what lock wa used. We told him, he asked if it was a D-lock. We said no, an explained how much better it was. The insurance dude then said "ok I' going to put it down as being locked up with a d-lock so you should ge the payout". Just a bit weird how they seem to think that a £10 d-loc is potentially better than a £100 ******* kryptonite lock I do genuinely think the thieves would have had to cut through the fram to steal that bike. (it had good wheels and groupset though Anyways back to the point. Co-op insurance have in my experience a least been good at paying out on bikes - |
