Was it installed/adjusted properly? I never had that problem
with SR. I always found SR's shifting to be excellent (it

was
6 speed though).

Yeah, the install was fine. I noticed lots of pros at the time

were using
Simplex retrofriction shift levers so I got a pair. The

shifting was much
more smooth and the rear did not jump out of gear as often. At

that point I
read two different bike reviews where the writer complained

about the same
problem with the same parts. As my bike was still pretty new

the shop
agreed to switch me over to Dura-Ace with a full refund on the

Campy stuff.
Just as well as Campy soon moved to index shifting and it took

them some
time to get it right.

The N.R. shifters could loosen, but, IIRC, tapping the boss or
adding a washer usually solved the problem. Retrofriction
shifters were popular, although they were late in the game and
leap-frogged by SIS. But only girly men bought SIS, at least for
the first few years -- so the Retrofriction shifters got their
brief time in the sun. -- Jay Beattie.

12 of the 20 stages in the TDF were won on Campy equipped bikes.

If you looked closer you would have noticed that he heading was 2004, but
the results were 2003. Baden Cooke in Green and Denis Menchov in white.

bob- At last count I have at least 15 Shimano 9 speed rear wheels. Are you
saying that I could use these wheels with an otherwise Campy drivetrain?
BRBR

Yessir. Get Campagnolo 10s levers and rear der. They are compatible with
shimano 9s cogsets and chains AND shimano 10s cogsets and chains.

The differences in cog spacing is such that Campagnolo 10s is between shimano
9s and 10s, with DA 10s being the closest together. The differences up and down
are similar so that Campagnolo 10s works with either-

Hi Peter,

If using a 9sp Ultegra cogset and chain with an otherwise all Campag 10sp
drivetrain do you need to respace the Ultegra cogset? Or can you just slip in
the wheel and ride?

TIA

Adjust the rear der, other than that, nothing needed. We do this all the time
as more and more shimano 9s STI go south.
