Cyclist in Glentress rescue

Published on Friday 1 July 2011 07:02

A LONDON mountain biker was airlifted to hospital after a dangerous
fall at Glentress Forest near Peebles.

The 40-year-old man sustained a dislocated shoulder and elbow in the
accident on June 22.

He was thrown off his bike on the deliverance section of the Black
route, one of the 7Stanes mountain bike trails through Glentress. It
is several hundred metres from the nearest forest road.

Paramedics attended but could not move the casualty to their
ambulance, requiring the help of Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team
(TVMRT).

A Royal Navy helicopter from Prestwick was unable to land in the
forest, forcing the crew to winch the biker to the aircraft for
transport to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Dave Wright, TVMRT search manager, said: “Mountain biking is
increasingly popular in the Scottish Borders and Tweed Valley Mountain
Rescue Team train regularly to respond to mountain biking incidents
and the common injuries associated with the sport”
