Olympic picks contest
I'm running a little bragging rights-only contest on picking winners
in the Olympic road events. These include the men's and women's road races, and men's and women's individual time trial. Information on the road events is available at: http://www.cyclingnews.com/road/2004/olympics04/ MAILING IN YOUR PICKS How does it work? I knew you'd ask! Simply (it is, really) send entries to: (eliminate "_"): To enter for each event, I need four sets of picks, one for each event. Events a MRR: Men's road race WRR: Women's road race MTT: Men's time trial (apologies to the San Francisco Symphony) WTT: Women's time trial Entries should consist of groups of picks. The first line of each group is the event code: "MRR", "WRR", "MTT", "WTT". Following this, three picks, numbered, consisting of the pick number, space, and the rider name. Riders should be UCI ranked, with names spelled correctly. Please check, for example, http://www.cyclingnews.com/ for those gnarly Euro-spellings.... DEADLINES The deadline for this contest is 8am CET the day of the race for each event. You can revise entries for a given event up to this time. SAMPLE ENTRY This shows an example where entries are given for each event. Entries can also be given in separate emails. However, make sure there is a tag for the event (for example, "MRR"). Subject: picks (subject line doesn't matter) MRR 1. Eddy Merckx 2. Fausto Coppi 3. Jacques Anquetil WRR 1. Linda Jackson 2. Jeannie Golay 3. Jennifer McRae MTT 1. Chris Boardman 2. Miguel Indurain 3. Graham Obree WTT 1. Karen Kurreck 2. Rebecca Twigg 3. Nicole Freedman SCORING Picks are weighted 3:2:1, from first to third. Riders score points based on their results, heavily weighted toward medals, weighted towards road races, weighted towards men's events: MRR (20 places): 68, 51, 34, 17, 16, ..., 2, 1 MTT (15 places): 48, 36, 24, 12, 11, ..., 2, 1 WRR (15 places): 48, 36, 24, 12, 11, ..., 2, 1 WTT (10 places): 28, 21, 14, 7, 6, ..., 2, 1 There is a 2x bonus for picking, in order, the top 3 finishers. That's it. Simple, isn't it? |
