World Cup cyclocross in the USA
From paper HLN, via Belgian teletext:
Cyclocross racers want to conquer America Next year, there will almost certainly be a World Cup cyclocross race in the United States. So writes Het Laatste Nieuws. "America, here we come!", sound the riders enthousiastically. Peter Van den Abeele, UCI cross coordinator, flies to the States Thursday to negotiate: "We won't make heaps of money, because they only pay the plane ticket and stay. But if we can promote cyclocross racing this way: great. Riders will be travelling light though: only two bikes, two wheels, no personal wrenching team, ..." Erwin Vervecken has already done cyclocross races in the United States a few times. He says: "A series of crosses in America spread over 3 weeks, that would really make the trip worthwhile." He reminisces: "I've done two crosses on the East coast, and two on the West coast. The nine hours time difference in the West are killing. I rode my laps like on one leg." The cyclocross riders do ask for a realistic planning in the season. "Not right after Worlds for example", says Sven Nijs, "because that will attract unmotivated riders who only want to party." -- Firefox Web Browser - Rediscover the web - http://getffox.com/ Thunderbird E-mail and Newsgroups - http://gettbird.com/ |
