Default 26.0 bars in a 25.4 "pop-top" stem?

Regarding "pop-top" threadless stems, Sheldon says: "Since it doesn't
work by flexing the aluminum as a single-bolt stem does, they're less
fussy about bar diameter, so the same stem can generally be used for
25.4 or 26 mm handlebars."

I am looking for a cheap temporary stem for a project I'm working on.
The handlebars I have are 26.0mm, and the pop-top threadless stem I'm
looking at on ebay is listed as 25.4. Anybody have experience actually
doing this?

Not long term. I'd be a little more concerned about sizing up on the
bar v. using an undersized bar in a 26mm stem.

BTW, if you need 25.4 road bars, just pick up some Nittos. Ben's Cycle
has the traditional bend for just $25:

Dismal results observed with others. Bar and cap damage have both
been seen. *If* it works (and sometimes it does) you may find that
both components become distorted enough in the process to preclude
them from being useful separately afterwards.
