Teaser: “Any One of Us” Featuring Paul Basagoitia An Intimate Look at one of the Most Remarkable and Inspiring Journeys in Our Sport March 8, 2019 By Bike When professional mountain biker Paul Basagoitia suffered a devastating spinal cord injury (SCI) at the 2015 edition of Red Bull Rampage, his life changed in an instant. Upon discovering he was paralyzed, Paul began a grueling battle against his own body and mind, in the hope of one day being able to walk again. In “Any One of Us,” the latest documentary film from Red Bull Media House, his excruciating recovery unfolds in real time through raw, intimate footage*much of which was filmed by Paul himself*as we see him fight through the agonies of an unpredictable journey and uncertain future. “Any One of Us” is the directorial debut from Fernando Villena, produced by Red Bull Media House. "I'm inspired by stories of healing and growth and this film epitomizes that type of story," said Villena. "When I first saw the months of footage that Paul had captured, it was clear that the same strength that made him a force on a bike, would drive him to fight for every bit of recovery. I feel honored to help Paul tell his powerful story, and am looking forward to the audience's reaction at SXSW." Spinal cord injury can happen to anyone. Stories from seventeen other people living with SCI weave throughout the film, shining light on the struggles that Paul now faces. After years of relentless hard work, intense physical therapy, and even controversial stem cell treatments, Paul slowly begins to build a new life for himself. “Any One of Us” shows how lives can change forever in the blink of an eye*and the resilience, grit, and determination it takes to stay open to life’s possibilities, even under the most trying of circumstances. “Any One of Us” will debut in a documentary spotlight world premiere at SXSW Saturday, March 9 at 5:00pm in the Atom Theater at the Convention Center; Monday, March 11 at 7:30pm in Rollins Theatre at the Long Center; and Thursday, March 14 at 9:00pm at Austin's AFS Cinema. Details and ticket info for showings at SXSW can be found at:https://schedule.sxsw.com/2019/films/2008777. All proceeds from “Any One of Us” will benefit Wings for Life, a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation, with a mission to find a cure for spinal cord injury. Learn more about Wings for Life at WingsforLife.com and the film at AnyOneofUsfilm.com. Watch the teaser above, and stay tuned this Fall for the film’s full release. |
