It's surprisingly light, at just 1625 grams.

Now, on to number five...

Cheers,

Suzy

Nice work.

Do you set this up in a jig?

I used a jig for this one, which I made from 8020 extrusion. Here's a
photo of the frame mid-build: http://www.flickr.com/photos/suzy_j/5431195457/

For the previous three, I simply used a section of square section
aluminium tube, to which I clamped various parts of the frame.

What's the screw thingies (my apologies for the highly technical term)
at the base of the head tube? I am guessing they are for the gear/brake
cables? I've never seen that kinda setup.

Yeah - they're for the STI gear cables. I've previously done downtube
lever bosses. These are cool - they mean the gear cables won't rub on
the head tube.

They look radical as well Wish I could retrofit them on my bikes

Also, the 1625grams is for the whole frame?

Yes. It's built with Columbus Zona.

Bloody hell! 1625g for a metal frame is really light. I mean, good
carbon fibre frames come in at 600g and I would almost be prepared to
bet, if I was a betting man, that most carbon frames weigh in around the
1kg mark - if not more.

You almost done with the frame yet? Can't be too much left to go.

Hahahahah!! You nong

One thing is for sure though, suzyj's bike will probably be about 10kgs
when it is finished. It will be a lot easier to pedal too cos I don't
see any pedals on your bike

I just need to run a tap through the BB shell and apply paint. Oh,
and put a whole pile of components on it.

We're doing SRAM rival, with Fulcrum 3 wheels and a set of Look HSC3
carbon forks I've had hanging up in the garage for a few years.
According to my calculations, the whole thing should come in a couple
of hundred grams under 8kg, so not too shabby for a steel frames
bike. Modern components are stunningly light.

Hm, nick of paint, bolt on a bit or three, shouldn't take too long
Oh, I forgot the tuning, awright, maybe a minute or two more

Pretty sure it ain't gonna be this weekend as you would probably be busy
with other social appointments Just make sure you let us know when
you are closer to completion, ok?

8kgs?!!! Damn, I think the weigh-in for the 2010 Tour de France was
6.2kgs or thereabouts. 8kgs ain't too shabby for a homemade job

Well the UCI legal minimum is 6.8Kg, but of course that is the complete
bike including bidon holders, pedals, computer/SRM components etc.
And of course this same rule applies to the bikes of big heavy guys like
Cancellara as well as the mosquito weight climbers.

I'd have to agree though that 8Kg is a good weight for a lugged cromo
frame. Off the shelf you have to spend around $3K or more to get a bike
under 7.5Kg. For example my Defy Advanced 1 weighed in at 7.4 but that
is in a small frame size.

Hell I've accidentally lost two Kg just by not drinking in February
which actually saved me money!

6.8kgs, was it? I wasn't sure. I knew that if I was wrong someone would
know the right weight

I vaguely recall hearing that they could actually go even lower than
6.8kgs but for whatever reason 6.8 it is and 6.8 it stays.

You also forgot to mention that 8kg is a damn good weight for a homemade

Not that 7.4kg is a poor show but in perspective, that 7.4 was achieved
using considerably more resources I'd bet.

No real hurry to go looking for them 2 missing kgs?

I'll bet if you rode your Defy 20kms every day for the remainder of
March at a good cadence, you could send more kgs to join those 2 missing
kgs - so get to it, buddy You will NOT regret it
