When this place was a thriving interesting place, one person who used to
delight in annoying drivers and comm police near mascot had some sort
comeuppance or accident and stopped posting then the whole group ceased.

Usually usenet groups require at least 3 regular posters who post not
just react.

That gives the huge number of lurkers something to read.
