OK, let's not get all excited and brand ALL cops as *******s. I live in Benbrook, TX and the cops here are friendly towards cyclists. They also try to encourage cycling by putting on a Bike Rodeo each year at a local school. Lewis ***** |

There are corrupt police in every nation, it is true--but if you knew any police officers in real life, they'd tell you that about 98% of everyone they catch insists "they're innocent". Even if they're caught red-handed, and most undoubtedly guilty. My guess is, the story is not /quite/ as simple as it is told at the urbanvelo link. |

The last time I talked to a cop was on Tuesday at the Performance store -- we we're both looking for a new pair of rain booties, and he just started talking to me . . . as though I knew him, and he looked oddly familiar, so I stuck out my hand and we shook, but then I realized I didn't know the guy from Adam. The worst part is that I convinced him to buy a pair of booties that is really waterproof but that is a pain in the ass to get on - as I learned when I got them home. Hope he doesn't bust me for bad bootie advice. These booties: http://www.veloclothes.com/prod1.asp...d=All%20Brands The good part is that they fit jumbo feet. -- Jay Beattie. |

You'll lose a toe! That won't even work in November, let alone cold weather. Get some neoprene boots. -- Andrew Muzi www.yellowjersey.org/ Open every day since 1 April, 1971 |

There are some good cops, mostly not to worry about, but also many that shouldn't be trusted with the power and authority; and the occupation seems to foment a worrisome pack mentality. Those are intriguing (I like the sealed cuff if they're not too hot, not sure about getting them on / off as you say). I like the biketiresdirect booties: http://www.biketiresdirect.com/produ...oprene-booties .... not too expensive (especially on sale), XXL easy on / off, pretty warm and dry, good ventilation at the top (though water can run down your leg and fill up your shoe). They can be *too* warm if the outside air is. I have a very positive association with them, though - from that time I tore a LG neoprene bootie and these guys shipped me a new pair of theirs when I needed them most, delivered the next day at no cost to me (only shipping and "VIP points"). |

I might get a pair of those, too, since I seem to eat-up booties -- and for Muzi, it is more wet than cold in PDX, although in the dead of winter it is both -- and I probably will use something with a little more insulation. I still have a ragged pair of neoprene booties that I can use in a pinch. It's odd that Western Bike Works is not selling the Bike Tires Direct booties since they are owned by the same people. The ideal situation would be if BTD shipped to the WBW store downtown free of charge, and then I could just (long) walk over and pick it up -- past all the other shops. I still marvel at how they all stay in business. Getting over to the BTD store near the airport on a work day is a bit of a stretch, and I would have to drive. Actually, I could just get free shipping over $100. How can you not spend $100? A couple of tires, some booties -- bam, $100. Keep the economy strong! -- Jay Beattie. |

But to claim compensation for false arrest, the prisoner must protest his innocence at the time of arrest to have a chance of success when the police are unable to prove grounds for arrest. My guess is, the story is not /quite/ as simple as it is told at the urbanvelo link. |
