Still in the Saddle
I guess I just can't stay away from my bike. I've been having riding
withdrawal issues due to recent (and not so recent) aggravation to my back. So a couple of day (spread out over two weeks) of PT and I decided to give it a go on the Devil Switchblade (opposite of CDB's Reverend Titus). A bud called and I, not knowing what I was in for, agreed to go riding Saturday morning. It wasn't a difficult ride as we decided to ride the canal east. I felt good all the way to the 40 mile mark.....then I started getting leg cramps which led to my back going into spasm just as we were starting into the trail back to whence we came. I had to walk the "dead air" climb to recoup some and made it safely back to the house. 45 miles total and 510 entire feet of elevation gain. FLAT RIDE. I had taken my electrolytes, ate food at the half way mark and again about 37 miles into the ride but pushing knobbies at 18-19 mph did me in. About 10 minutes after I got home....after drinking an electrolyte drink.... I turned wrong and my left hamstring cramped horribly for several minutes and through several screams. Damn thing still aches. But I was back on the bike. nuffsaid Gary |

Just get a really comfy one. My Roubaix is very comfortable and might be worth a test ride if you can get on one. Matt |

Then there's the 2 mile section of ST to the canal I wouldn't want to take a road bike on. Plus there's the money for yet another bike and I'm still looking for a replacement for the Devilbike. I've always ridden a large frame bike (since my first Proflex that's a medium) because I have a long torso and short legs....could be why I'm suffering now??? Everybody says I should be on a smaller frame. Gary |
