Here's the Mileage Thread for 2015

Hey! I have not seen the "how many miles" thread for 2015 yet...did I miss something?

I always like to see how poorly I fair compared to some of you Daddy Long Legs out there. I take comfort in the fact that at least I'm still out there, anyway.

So:
Pureheart in Aptos put on
2,700 miles in 2015

Divided equally with my 1980 Cannondale Touring bike and 8 year old Easy Racer

Any others?

a bloody long cycling season for Eastern Ontario in Canada. Normally my
cycling season ends on 30 November. BTW, I am about 16 years older than my
frameset.

Oooo...I had no idea what a "Torpado" is/was. Very nice machine. I assume back then they were 27", did you stay with that or convert to the evil ^h^h^h^h new 700C format?

My "fleet" has stuck with 27". My current fave tire is the Zafirro, whch can go up to 100 psi, rolls well and also wears fairly quickly...about 1,000 miles in back.
I like this so the tires are kept "fresh" and one does not have a six year old casing on the front while bombing down a long hill fully loaded on a tour.

It has always been on 700C tires, it doesn't have the clearances for 27-
inchers. Sew-ups back when I first got it. I now use Mavic 13mm rims
mounting 23mm Gatorskin clinchers now.

I had 4100km in about the same span as you did. It was a long season for
Quebec as well.

It's funny as I usually top 5000km in a shorter season but I guess we
had some awful rain and wind in the spring so I commuted less than
normal. Though my average speeds were up and I did more climbing so it
worked out well enough.

1956 was a very good year.

About 2000mi each on a Fuji Outland 29er FS MTB and an old early-80's
road bike (Gazelle steel frame). So 4000mi total. I ride all year round
and pretty much regardless of whether. Mostly distance between 30-50mi
plus some shorter utility runs.

To my surprise the most recent rear Gatorksin on the road bike lasted
2500mi but by that time it was very close to KAPOW.

I got about 9,000Km out of my last pair of Gatorskins, but, from reading of your travails in rec.bicycles.tech, Joerg, I gather that your environment is more hostile than mine. When I decided to replace them, they were tending to puncture off the centre line and among the minimalist markings that pass for their tread. I find their wire beads bears to wrestle with and get onto a rim properly.

Fortunately, two of my punctures were within a short walk of my LBS which has a decent pub in the same building (Angie the bike tech's GSD Titus tends to wander from the shop into the pub). Gratuitous plugs follow:

There is the occasional bush road or gravel road but 95% of the time my
road bike sees regular asphalt. Which in California isn't too great in
quality because we get a very low bang for the buck for our tax Dollars.
Everyone here knows the reasons for that but don't get me started.
9000km is more than twice of what people in this area milk from road
bike tires and most don't get more than 2000mi or 3200km. You guys must
have super-smooth hand-groomed road surfaces that are being scrubbed
clean with mop and bucket every week :-)

Oh yeah. My thumbs still hurt a little from Saturday. Which is why I'd
walk the bike home if it ever got a flat even it that means hoofing it
for 20 miles. But with tubes that have 0.120" or 3mm wall thickness all
around I haven't had flats in over a year.

Cool places! I'll have a Beau's Lug Tread and then an Irene's Red.

I usually make sure to have a nice brewpub on the way and carry a
stainless 64oz growler in the left pannier.

ride for exercise or sport, I ride to get somewhere. Max per day so far
is fifty kilometers (except one hundred mile trip in 1984 when I was
much younger). But most days a lot less.

I ride for transportation too. Mainly to and from work.
Very infrequent bike touring these days...hope to do more.
Having a mileage goal helps give me motivation to get on the bike rather
than simply turn the key (although with the traffic around here biking
can have a time advantage as well, although it's not fun due to that aforementioned traffic.).
