"Ian Walker" wrote Can we honour the constabulary that took this action? Name the police force responsible, so others can know that they take complaints seriously. Which county are you in? ITYM "which country are you in"? ;-) Notwithstanding my glib reply it's nice to hear this kind of thing. I shouldn't be so sarcastic anyway as when I got knocked off a couple of years ago justice was done effectively with the aid of motorists who helped as witnesses. Pete |

About this time last year I was cycling along a road in White City, when a white van, unable to wait a few seconds for me to pass by a traffic island, veered across to the right hand side of the road, hooted at some children legitimately crossing the road from the island, causing them to leap back onto said island, and then drove by on the wrong side of the road, ignoring the keep left sign. I took his number, got another witness and grassed him up to the local plod. The wheels of justice immediately sprang into action, and this week he was fined £300, and got six points on his licence. (His statement to the court showed he considered he had done nothing wrong, and that the children were at fault for having the effrontery to cross the road when he wanted to drive across it the wrong way). Just thought you'd like to know that just occasionally some impatient plonker who endangers other road users gets what's coming to him. Good work well done! It's funny, just yesterday I was considering posting a diatribe against white vehicles! On my rides Thursday AND Friday, I had a number of close passes by white pickups, panel trucks, SUVs, minivans...you name it! No other vehicles came near me at all... Bill "is there something to this???" S. It's the white paint. The pressure of light on the white paint causes a side force, which is less for any other colour (where part of the pressure is absorbed). This causes the white vehicle to run closer to the gutter unless the driver (and I use the term loosely) compensates. Only happens in the Autumn and Spring, of course, when the sun is low on the horizon. Isn't science wonderful? R. |

Whereas cycling on the pavement is often slated in both countries but for different reasons ;-) Tony |
