I think that what we are seeing is a changing of the guard. The pace has been kept too damned high for so much of these stages that the recovery can only be met by the younger riders. What worries me is that the older riders might stoop to using artificial means of recovery. And because most of the people running the tour were racers themselves they can understand and perhaps look the other way.
