Default NUTS - November 08

Aye, it were a proper good'un. I really enjoyed being back on my Muni
and out in the hills around Macc for the first time in months.

The party on Friday night was a good warm up though I fear I got a
little too cosy. Imbibed rather too much of the boogie juice to be able
to coordinate my limbs and brain to the standards required for a day of
unicycling on Saturday so the others will have to fill folk in on what
happened during the trials day.

Saturday evening we were all still pretty pooped so had a quiet evening
in, ate curry and watched TV.

Sunday morning we managed to get ourselves up to Tegg's Nose only forty
five minutes behind schedule and made the rendezvous with Matt. After a
bit of faffing and trying to ascertain whether any of us had had the
foresight to bring a pump (nice one Dane!), we got going.

The first descent from the car park is pretty rocky and techniclack...
Something of a trial by fire for AJ with it being his first time trying
MUni but he did admirably. I think we made a MUni convert of him. Great
success!

After the first descent there's a bit of a climb up to the beginning of
Charity Lane, my favourite bit of the ride. It's a long technical
descent along the top edge of the forest popular with walkers, cyclists
and us!

After that there's a bit of a cruise along the road past a notorious
car park and then we dropped into the forest itself where there's been a
lot of recent logging. We stopped for our lunch here perched on a couple
of fallen treeswhich blocked the path before carrying on on rolling fire
roads until we dropped out near the largest of the local reservoirs and
a pub.

Deciding it would be rude to deprive the pub of our custom in these
difficult economic times we stopped by to offer them some financial aid
and supped up in the shadow of Tegg's Nose, the big hill we'd started
out from.

The climb back up Tegg's Nose actually ended up being less painful than
we thought it would be though we did take more than one rest stop on the
way up there.

Once at the top it was a short ride across the top, past the old quarry
machinery and then back down to the car park.

Somehow Duracell Baxter still had beans left to have a go at a few
fairly gnarlsome bits while we stood by offering moral support and
encouragement.

All that was left then was to get back into the vehicles, down the hill
back into Macclesfield and have a cup of tea.

We managed two out of three but when we got back to mine we had the
horrifying situation of no tea or milk and no nearby open shops so folk
had to go packing with their thirst unquenched.

All in all a top weekend. I'm a bit gutted I didn't manage to get my
brain back in order to ride on Saturday but Sunday made up for it.

Hopefully a NUTS meet'll coincide with another trip back up North in
the not too distant future. I've missed these little get togethers.

Awsome pics kit!
It was as always, a wicked NUTs! With the three essentials; riding,
partaying and socialising.
One of my favourite bits was aquiring the tesco sign!

Realy looking forward to the next installment.
