Great link, thanks. The Bikecult home page has a link to the

velodrome
which looks very cool. Next time I'm in NYC I'm definitely

going to pay
a visit.

The race was here in Portland at the Alpenrose track. See
http://www.leifclarke.com/photo_albu..._alpenrose.htm It is
the steepest banked permanent track in the United States. Its a
hoot, especially flying off the top of the transition. You have
to keep up about 15mph, otherwise you fall off the bank. -- Jay
Beattie.

I got dizzy, just looking at the pics. I don't like heights. And I
really don't like falling off of them.

That's actually worse than Calshot, which is the UK's steepest track.

http://www.hants.gov.uk/calshot/cycle.html

They have a new and slightly less steep track now (pictured) and
conventional metal rails round the edge, but when I first rode there it
was the old "wall of death" Skol Six-Day track, and there was a kind of
green netting to stop you flying over the edge. One guy went too high
and ended up hanging by his hands from the netting, too scared to let
go. In those days it was all toe-clips so the bike had fallen back into
the middle. Most amusing.
