Default Dog bite yesterday :(

Well out doing my usual ride to work and I was bailed up by a huge blardy
dog. I got off the bike as he really wanted a part of me. This is on one of
our main roads which only has a few farms along it, which I ride EVERYDAY
to work and have never seen a dog along this road before! After a lot of
yelling, swearing (yeah I know it becomes me) a finally felt that I could
turn around and ride back the way I came. I had to do a detour of some 6kms
to bypass the beast. Got out on the highway and a cop car was coming the
other way so I wave it down and tell them to go "shoot the blardy dog". When
I finally got up to the intersection with the other road here are the cops
sitting in their car looking at this blardy dog!
Going home I set off to travel same route again and this time the dog was
REALLY wanting a piece of me. In the end I was off my bike with it on one
side jumping up growling and me screaming at it on the other side - just
managing to keep the bike between us. A guy stopped, grabbed this humungous
broom out of the back of his ute and was trying to hit the dog! Needless to
say I let down my guard, dog got around my bike and the ******* bit me on
the leg . Guy then aimed a good solid wack on the side of the dog, much
screaming from me and howling from the dog and it ran off. Guy then bandaged
my leg and dropped me home.
Today, antibiotics, $56 out of pocket for Doctor and I am left with a nasty
swollen leg - 6 days out from my big epic. I am peeeeeeeed off. Rang cops
today and they said they would go back and persue it further. I am peeeeed
off!
What do people do when harrassed seriously by a humungous blardy dog who
wants to eat you?

Do you know the owner of the dog Kathy. A friend of mine (ex police
Inspector) said a dog attack can be the easiest $10,000 you can get.
Witness, photos etc and go them!

1) Straight Ammonia in a squirt bottle. Aim for the eyes. Highly
recommended for a dog like that. You may want to arm up for a while
until this dog disappears.

2) Agro back. You really have to believe and think you are going to
smash your fist down its throat and out its arse and grab its tail to
turn it inside out. Smart dogs get the vibe. Well, big ones do. For
small stupid yappers a baseball bat or a stout stick and dog paste is
necessary[1].

Dogs usually only agro to bite if they are defending their turf. If this
dog wasn't outside a farmhouse close by the road, then press for the
police/council to destroy it. "If it was outside a farmhouse, on a
public road, then demand recompense from the owners and seek its
destruction.

"What would this dog do do to a small child" is always a good line for
the local newspapers.

[1] If you have really fast reflexes, sometimes you get away with small
dog soccer, or just offer the toe of leather shoes and hope it takes the
bait, then a fast kick. Worked for me on occassions, but I'm not that
fast on reflexes.

Generally dogs are not a problem for me, unless I am are riding with a
group and someone is afraid of them. My main defence has been to stop
and talk to them.

In answer to your question Kathy, if the legal remedy is not to your
liking then I would feed it a bait. If you know a few farmers then there
is sure to one or two that still have some strychnine or other handy
poison available. If not then dark chocolate can be toxic for dogs - a
large block of cooking choccy should do the job.

It would better to bait the dumb owners who let the savage lose...

I love riding to hockey training at night. In some streets there seems
to be constant parade of new dogs on the loose. A quick flick of the
stick across the nose seems to do wonders. Generally they don't know
where it came from and rapidly change from snarling demon to whimpering
puppy.

A guy I know who used to be a milko told me he carried a length of wire
to use as a whip on viscious dogs.

In my younger days delivering papers I had a little yapper at one
particular house. Dropped the Saturday Age on it which quietened it down
somewhat.

We are a violent lot arent we? Police spoke to me late yesterday and told me
that the farmers son was home for the weekend with his pig dogs!!!!!! and
one was "on the loose" The offender is returning to where he came out past
Charters Towers today. If I ride past that ******* on my epic journey
(Charters is part of the route) I will not be a happy camper at all. As for
legal follow up, I must be too much of a softy. I have not lost a limb or
anything LOL. The idea of a small cane sounds ok to me but I am such a
wooose that once the dog is that close I am beyond helping myself anyway
probabley. I did once "whip" a small ball of fluff with our big long orange
flag pole on the back of the Tandem - that was brave of me. Leg looks more
settled today and I slept. Going to hit the road after lunch to see how it
feels.

I recently had a little yapper go for me. Luckily the rubbish had been collected earlier that morning so there were heaps of bins
about.

I scooped the dog up and deposited it in a wheely bin.

rant
To those advocating baiting the dog, having it destroyed etc, get a
****ing clue!! Dogs are a product of their owners - much like children
are (unfortunately) a product of their parents.

Sure, do what you have to do to defend yourself, and sue the pants off
the owner (or bait _them_), but realise that the dog is just doing what
it's bred to do.

A few weeks ago, I was chased by a cattle dog on Mount Lindesay Highway
at Munruben. Initially it gave me a fright as I wasn't expecting it,
but then I just growled at the dog and yelled at it and it stopped. I
actually felt sorry for the dog because it was only doing it's job -
what it has been bred and raised to do. Bred to chase, brought up to
protect someone's property, yet the bogan owners had obviously left the
gate open or something of equal stupidity.

We choose to live in a country inhabited by a huge number of pig
shootin' sheep rootin' bogans - if we don't like it, we should just
**** off and find another country to live in, shouldn't we? Or stop
wanking on about the migrant/refugee 'problems' we encounter and
concentrate on the real problem we have - bogans.

/rant

Just had to get that off my chest. Have a nice day.
